Communication
Please visit my class site at https://tamekav.wateroflifecs.org/home for more details and updates on homework, field trips, class events, school calendar, projects, resources and much more.
My email address is tamekav@wateroflifecs.org. I check my emails throughout the day, and will do my best to respond as soon as possible. I will make every effort to respond to you within 24 hours, or by Monday if it’s a weekend.
Communication will sometimes come to you through your child, so please check with them on a daily basis to see what correspondence they have brought from school.
Attendance and Absences Policy
Please refer to handbook pg. 18-21.
Note: Make sure to email attendance and myself when your child is going to be absent. If there is no communication and an absent is not excused, the child cannot make up the work missed (including tests!) It is very important to keep communication open so that your child can be successful!

Please let me know if there are any situations that may result in your child needing to use the bathroom more often.

Grading
The Trimester Grades will integrate the following three categories of learning experiences:
Assessments – Formal quizzes and tests that identify the degree of mastery of specific concepts or skills.
Weekly Reviews-Brief analysis of the skills practiced through the class and homework assignments.
Performance and Projects – These opportunities allow students to integrate the skills that are practiced into larger everyday applications.
Grading Policy
The grade book will have the same grading weight in each subject. All tests in each subject will combine to a weigh 40% of the final grade for each subject. Quizzes will combine to weight 30%, projects, activities and daily work 20% and homework 10%.
Grade Book Policy
When a student misses an assignment, that assignment must be turned in within the week. When turned in within the week due, 10% will be taken off of the grade for that assignment.
When the assignment is not turned in within the first week, it is marked as an “I” in the grade book. “In Progress”
After a week, the “I” becomes and “M” for missing.
Once the assignment becomes an “M”, it cannot be changed.
An “M” is considered a zero and can remain an “M” for the duration of the trimester. This shows both parents and teachers why grades may become lowered due to missing assignments.
An “E” for excused may be used in instances where the student was excused due to an absence and missed a Science Lab, and Art project or other lesson activity that would be impossible to make up. Using an “E” will excuse the student from the assignment without affecting the grade.
Accelerated Reader (AR)
Most of you are familiar with the Accelerated Reader Program that we have here at Water of Life Christian School. This is an incentive based reading program that will involve 30 minutes of nightly reading for 3rd Grade students. Students will be required to log in their daily reading on their weekly book logs and have their parent/guardian sign it. The reading log will be turned in weekly (on Friday) to reflect 5 days and will be entered for a 10% grade in their Language Arts Grade Book. I will check the reading logs each week. In addition, time will be allocated daily for AR time to allow students to do their logs, take quizzes and read. We will make a weekly visit to the library to allow students to check out/in books from the library. I will also have AR books available in the classroom. This year, AR goals and comprehension scores on AR tests will be added to the gradebook every 6 weeks.
Homework
Homework folders will go home on Monday and are expected to be returned daily. Students will be given time at the end of each day to write their assignments down. In addition, all homework assignments, upcoming quizzes, and upcoming tests will be posted every day on my classroom site through the tab labeled “Homework.”
Completing all homework assignments is essential in making sure that every student understands the concepts and skills being taught.
LATE ASSIGNMENTS
Late homework, classwork, and projects will NOT be accepted unless it is returned within one week of the due date. After that it becomes a "0". Late Assignments will receive a 10% deduction.
Special Projects and Activities
Throughout the school year, your child will be assigned a number of different types of projects. I will do my best to give them the tools and resources at school. However, they will need to spend some of their own time at home on various aspects of the project. I will also be sure to give your student detailed information about each project’s requirements, and an adequate amount of time to complete them.
Please familiarize yourself with the School Calendar that has all the school wide activities. The following 3rd grade projects/activities are scheduled and more information will be coming to you.
